Halstead - Nettie Flanigan

A peculiarly sad case is reported here concerning the death of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Halstead, who went from this county to Caudo, N. D., about a year ago, A few days ago both Mr. and Mrs. Halstead were taken down with lung fever, both growing worse rapidly. On Thursday, March.29, Mr. Halstead died and Friday his body was shipped for Linden to his father, William Halstead. Friday night Mrs. Halstead died and her body was shipped Saturday morning. Her father, Noah Flaningam was with her when she died and accompanied the body back, bringing also the three little children so suddenly made orphans. Mr. Halstead was one of the best known men in the county during his residence here and his wife was a young woman of many virtues. - transcribed by Kim H

Clyde Halstead and wife were buried last Tuesday. A double brick vault was made and they were placed side by side. It is sad, indeed, to think of the three children left without either father or mother, but they will be taken care of by their grandparents. The M. E. Church was filled mostly with ladies. The Modern Woodmen had charge of the funeral, the minister being an aged relative from Kirkpatrick. The Kirkpatrick choir furnished the music. Undertaker Jones was assisted by an undertaker from Clark’s Hill. The oldest people here say this was the first double funeral ever held in the town. Clyde was 31 years of age and his wife 30. Clyde died on March 29 and his wife ten hours later. Clyde was secretary of the local camp of Modern Woodmen and carried $3,000 life insurance in the order. – thanks to S for this one
